Andrew Nerland Papers, 1898-1956.

The Andrew Nerland Papers consist primarily of records of Nerland's business activities in Dawson, Yukon Territory, and Fairbanks, Alaska, for the years 1899-1931. Also included in the collection are a 19-page typescript of Nerland's diary for 1898; a file relating to the activities and history of the Fairbanks Masonic Lodge; printed materials concerning the Alaska Statehood Committee and Alaska Constitutional Convention; and budget reports, correspondence, photographs, agendas, minutes, and financial reports from Nerland's years as chairman of the University of Alaska Board of Regents.

Andrew Nerland (1870-1956), born in Norway, emigrated to the United States in 1885. He established a paint and wallpaper contracting business in Dawson, Yukon Territory, in 1898 and in Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1904, with branches opening later in Nenana, Iditarod, and Anchorage, Alaska. He gradually shifted to the furniture business.
